The central government sought Parliament’s approval on Monday for the second batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants totaling Rs 2.7 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2022-23. Net cash outflow will be Rs 1.48 lakh crore. The second batch of grant supplementary demands includes 73 grants and three appropriations.
“Approval of the Parliament is sought to authorise the gross additional expenditure of Rs 270,508.89 crore,” according to an official statement. A total of Rs 36,325 crore was requested for fertiliser subsidies. The Department of Telecommunications requested Rs 25,000 crore for the Universal Service Obligation Fund.
The government provides mobile and digital services to rural and remote areas through the USOF. Additionally, Rs 33,718.49 was requested to cover an additional expenditure for the payment of regular pensions due to enhanced One Rank One Pension (OROP) defence pensions.
The government has also requested two additional transfers to the GST compensation fund of Rs 29,617 crore and Rs 3,889 crore, which will be distributed to states and UTs.
