The Supreme Court announced on Monday that no ASI survey will be done of Gyanvapi Mosque Complex till July 26.
Supreme Court has also proposed that the Gyanvapi Mosque Management Committee can approach the Allahabad High Court against the Varanasi District Court order of ASI of Mosque Complex. Apex Court also noted that the Allahabad High Court order shall not be enforced till July 26.
Apex Court was hearing the plea of Anjuman Intezamia representing the Gyanvapi Mosque Management Committee challenging the Order of the Varanasi district Court that has permitted the excavation of Gyanvapi Mosque to ASI.
SC Passed a stay on the execution of the Varanasi court’s order in Gyanvapi Mosque Complex Case
Vishnu Shankar Jain, who is arguing for the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi Complex issue, comments on the Supreme Court’s decision: “The SC has passed a stay on the execution of the Varanasi court’s order on a survey of the Mosque complex to allow the Anjum to challenge the same before the High Court.”
The Supreme Court ordered a stay on the ASI survey of the complex till 5 p.m. on July 26. “We will abide by the court order,” stated DM Varanasi. To perform a scientific study of the mosque complex next to Kashi Vishwanath temple, the Archaeological Study of India (ASI) team arrived at the Gyanvapi Mosque earlier today in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
On Friday, Varanasi Court ordered an ASI survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex and not including the “Wazukhana” area which has been sealed.
On July 23 the team of ASI arrived in Varanasi. To ascertain whether the Gyanvapi, which is situated close to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, is built upon a temple, a team of 30 archaeologists from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)has begun their scientific investigation.
