As Haryana gears up for its Assembly elections on October 5, 2024, the Election Commission of India has revealed notable data regarding the state’s largest and smallest constituencies. Badshahpur, with a massive voter base, stands as the largest, while Narnaul is the smallest.
Badshahpur has grown rapidly since its establishment in 2008, becoming the largest constituency in Haryana with an impressive 5.2 lakh registered voters. This massive voter base reflects its growing influence in the state’s political arena. The constituency’s importance has surged, surpassing even Gurgaon, which is often regarded as Haryana’s economic and political hub.
In the 2009 Assembly elections, Congress’ Rao Dharampal claimed victory, setting the stage for what would become a highly competitive seat. In 2014, the BJP’s Rao Narbir Singh took control, but the 2019 elections brought an unexpected twist when the BJP denied Singh a ticket. Instead, Independent candidate Rakesh Daultabad won the seat by a margin of over 10,000 votes.
Now, 15 candidates are vying for Badshahpur in the 2024 elections, with key contenders including Rao Narbir Singh from the BJP and Vardhan Yadav from Congress.
In stark contrast to Badshahpur’s vast voter base, Narnaul, located in Mahendragarh district, has the smallest electorate in the state, with just 1.6 lakh voters. Despite its size, Narnaul has played a crucial role in state politics. In the 2019 elections, Narnaul had 1,44,066 electors, with 98,894 valid votes cast. The BJP’s Om Prakash Yadav secured a victory and became the MLA for the constituency, continuing his win from 2014.
The voter base in Narnaul has grown modestly over the years, but it remains significantly smaller than most other constituencies. Nevertheless, it has been a stronghold for the BJP, and the 2024 elections will determine whether the party can maintain its grip on this seat.
The 2024 Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with vote counting set for October 8. The elections will be conducted across the state’s 90 constituencies. According to the latest data, Haryana has a total of 20.1 million eligible voters, including 10.6 million males and 9.5 million females. Among these, 452,000 are first-time voters, and 4.09 million are young voters.
