Haryana Assembly elections: Who All Can Emerge As Kingmakers?

As Haryana goes for elections tomorrow, the battle for the position of the power in Haryana intensifies. Who will form the next government in Haryana, will it be BJP or Congress? Or Will someone emerge as a Kingmaker?

Many leaders and parties have entered the battle of Haryana and are seen as the real ‘kingmaker’. Here are top 5:

Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) led by Dushyant Chautala

The name Dushyant Chautala is not new in the politics of Haryana. Chautala, who previously served as deputy chief minister, holds significant sway, and his strategies could greatly influence the government formation process.

The JJP, a regional party led by Chautala, has gained prominence in the 2019 elections by winning 10 seats, and is crucial in coalition-building, especially in Jat-dominated areas. Despite its previous alliance with the BJP, which has since ended, the party is striving to regain support, potentially through new alliances, such as with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)

The INLD, under the leadership of Om Prakash Chautala, is eyeing on the dalit voters. Haryana records a high level of dalit voters in the state, they can make or break the government.

The party aims to reclaim its lost voter base among Dalit communities, by forming an alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party. If the INLD can regain its footing, it could play a pivotal role in a hung assembly scenario. Their historical legacy and established voter base make them a potential game-changer in the elections.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)

With Arvind Kejriwal leading to strengthen his party AAP’s base in several state assembly elections, after Delhi and Punjab, he has now entered Haryana. The AAP is making a concerted effort to establish its presence in Haryana, claiming themselves as the real ‘Kingmaker’ in forming alliances.

AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh, claim that no party will be able to form a government without their support. The AAP has fielded candidates in all 90 assembly constituencies, asserting that they will win enough seats to be a decisive factor in the formation of the next government.

Independent Candidates

It’s a ‘Rebel Trouble’ in Haryana. How? Many influential party members from BJP and Congress, capable of drawing considerable votes and emerging as crucial players post-election have taken the route of contesting this election as ‘Independent Candidates’.

Dissatisfaction within major parties has led to many former party members contesting as independents, which could further complicate the electoral landscape. Notable independent candidates include Savitri Jindal, Asia’s richest woman, and former minister Ranjit Singh Chautala, both of whom are running spirited campaigns after being denied party tickets.

Small Regional Parties

Lastly, Small regional parties and local leaders with strong grassroots connections could also play critical roles in negotiations. Historically, these parties have influenced results in close contests, particularly in constituencies where they hold a strong presence. Their impact will depend largely on their electoral performance and any alliances formed during the election process.
