The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its initial list of 67 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Legislative Assembly elections. The announcement, made on Wednesday, features key political figures and strategic selections, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who will contest from the Ladwa constituency.
Key Candidates and Changes:
- Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will represent BJP in Ladwa.
- Former Minister Anil Vij will contest from Ambala Cantt.
- Bhavya Bishnoi is set to run from Adampur.
- Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh’s daughter Aarti Rao will be fielded from Kalka.
- Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta is slated for Panchkula.
- Former Speaker Kanwar Pal Gurjar will contest from Jagadhri.
- Former Lok Sabha Member Sunita Duggal will run from Ratia.
- Tejpal Tanwar has been nominated for Sohna.
Notably, Sandeep Singh, a former captain of the Indian national hockey team, has been replaced by Sardar Kamaljeet Singh Ajrana for the Pehowa seat. Kabaddi player Deepak Hooda will contest from Meham. Additionally, three former MLAs from the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) – Devender Singh Babli (Tohana), Ram Kumar Gautam (Safidon), and Anoop Dhanak (Uklana) – have switched to BJP and received tickets.
This announcement follows the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) releasing its own candidate list earlier in the day, in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (ASP). The JJP’s list includes Dushyant Chautala running from Uchana Kalan, and four candidates from ASP.
The Election Commission of India has revised the polling date for the Haryana Assembly elections to October 5, 2024, from the originally scheduled October 1. The updated election schedule is as follows:
- Issue of Notification: September 5
- Last Date of Notification: September 12
- Scrutiny of Nomination: September 13
- Last Date of Withdrawal of Candidature: September 16
- Date of Poll: October 5
