The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its initial list of 67 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Legislative Assembly elections. The announcement, made on Wednesday, features key political figures and strategic selections, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who will contest from the Ladwa constituency.
Notably, Sandeep Singh, a former captain of the Indian national hockey team, has been replaced by Sardar Kamaljeet Singh Ajrana for the Pehowa seat. Kabaddi player Deepak Hooda will contest from Meham. Additionally, three former MLAs from the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) – Devender Singh Babli (Tohana), Ram Kumar Gautam (Safidon), and Anoop Dhanak (Uklana) – have switched to BJP and received tickets.
This announcement follows the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) releasing its own candidate list earlier in the day, in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (ASP). The JJP’s list includes Dushyant Chautala running from Uchana Kalan, and four candidates from ASP.
The Election Commission of India has revised the polling date for the Haryana Assembly elections to October 5, 2024, from the originally scheduled October 1. The updated election schedule is as follows:
