During a high-level meeting attended by G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) Secretary Ajay Seth, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Principal Secretary, Dr. PK Mishra, a comprehensive assessment was conducted regarding the outcomes of the G20 Leaders Summit held in New Delhi this year.
This review aims to transform the summit’s achievements into tangible actions, as stated in an official announcement.
Dr. PK Mishra commended the 18th G20 summit and stressed that India has generated substantial and influential results. These accomplishments are currently undergoing meticulous scrutiny to ensure their effective implementation. He underscored that the G-20 Summit is not a one-off event, and the Indian Presidency’s achievements are actively being followed up on and closely monitored.
Various ministries leading specific Working Groups have been tasked with executing outcomes relevant to their respective sectors. Furthermore, a high-level monitoring group is in the process of formation.
The official statement also revealed that Dr. Mishra instructed officials to prepare for the upcoming G20 Virtual Summit, which Prime Minister Modi had announced in his concluding remarks at the New Delhi summit. Multiple entities, including the G20 Secretariat, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), are collaborating closely to ensure the success of the virtual G20.
Additionally, Dr. Mishra directed all ministries to concentrate on delivering on commitments outlined in the declaration and those stemming from previous ministerial and working group meetings. He urged ministries to conduct webinars involving stakeholders and engage state governments and think tanks in this process.
Emphasizing India’s commitment to supporting the African Union under its G20 presidency, Dr. Mishra emphasized the need to formulate an action plan for outreach to the African Union and the broader global south.
Prime Minister Modi had previously announced that India would host a virtual meeting in November to monitor the progress of proposals and suggestions put forward by G20 member nations during the summit.
He highlighted India’s continuing responsibility as the G20 Presidency holder until November and expressed the importance of reviewing and tracking the status of these shared proposals, suggesting the convening of another virtual G20 Summit session at the end of November to achieve this goal.
