Several women participated in a “Saree Marathon” in the Besant Nagar area of Chennai on Sunday. The marathon, organized by a private NGO, aimed to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene.
Women of all ages took part in the 2-kilometre event, all dressed in traditional sarees. The participants included mothers, daughters, and grandmothers, all united by the cause of menstrual hygiene awareness.
The marathon featured prizes for the top three finishers: the first prize was Rs 6,000, the second prize was Rs 3,000, and the third prize was Rs 2,000. All participants received certificates acknowledging their involvement.

In addition to the race, the event included the distribution of sanitary pads to underscore the importance of menstrual hygiene. The organizers also provided informational materials on menstrual health and hygiene practices.
