Hindaun in Rajasthan Faces Severe Flooding as Heavy Rains Disrupt Life

The city of Hindaun in Rajasthan is grappling with severe flooding as relentless rains have caused water levels to surge to alarming heights. In several parts of the city, water has risen up to 5 to 6 feet, leading to a near-complete halt in normal life. Persistent rainfall over the past few days has created a flood-like situation that has left residents in dire straits.

The situation in Rajasthan has been particularly grim, with the state emerging as the worst affected among the northern Indian states. Over the past two days, the state has reported a total of 16 fatalities due to the heavy rains—two on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. Karauli district, one of the hardest-hit areas, recorded an “exceptionally heavy rainfall” of 38 cm on Sunday alone.

In Hindaun, many areas are submerged, including critical locations such as the main market and the municipal council office. The higher secondary school has also been affected by the rising waters, further exacerbating the crisis. Reports indicate that the flooding has severely impacted low-lying areas, creating significant hardships for the elderly and children.

Residents have voiced their frustration, noting that neither political leaders nor administrative officials have visited to assess or address the situation. “No relief has reached us. We have been in deep trouble due to the heavy rainfall in the last three days,” a Hindaun resident told India Today. The lack of response has intensified the suffering, with many residents losing their belongings to the floodwaters. Another local expressed dismay, saying, “I have lost my belongings due to rainwater entering my home. The administration has not made any effort to reach out to us.”

The impact of the heavy rainfall extends beyond Hindaun. On Sunday, the regional meteorological center in Jaipur issued warnings of continued heavy rain across various parts of the state. The severe waterlogging prompted the closure of schools in Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur, as the incessant rains have crippled normal activities in these towns.
