Hunt on for Amritpal Singh: India-Nepal among other International Borders on alert after Centre’s direction to BSF, SSB

International borders with Nepal and Pakistan, among others, have been placed on high alert after the Government sent a notice to the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on the potential of Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh fleeing the country.

According to reports, the MHA has asked the chiefs of both the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to direct their forces deputed on international borders to be on alert amid the ongoing hunt for Khalistani radical Amritpal Singh, whose hunt entered its fourth day on Tuesday.

According to a report who requested anonymity, all key border outposts at international borders with Nepal, Punjab, and Bangladesh, as well as the frontier units of the BSF and the SSB stationed there, have been alerted to be on high alert due to intelligence input that Amritpal Singh may flee the country to avoid arrest.

According to the report, pictures of Amritpal Singh have also been shared at these important exit points at international borders, preventing the extremist self-styled Sikh preacher from leaving the country.

According to a senior official, the two paramilitary forces have already given all necessary information to their field units, including images of Amritpal Singh, both with and without a turban.

The elusive preacher, however, gave the police the slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district, even as authorities stepped up security at several places in Punjab.
An FIR was lodged against Amritpal and his supporters for breaking through a police checkpoint and another related to the recovery of a firearm in the vehicle found in a Jalandhar village.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill has said they strongly suspect an ISI angle and foreign funding in ‘Waris Punjab De’.

He has also said a total of 114 people have been arrested so far since the crackdown has launched.
