Hyderabad: Three people are detained after a cricket betting ring is busted by police in Hyderabad Telangana, on February, Friday which led to the detention of three alleged members of an online cricket betting gang. They were secured in a joint activity by the Official’s Team alongside the Shahinayathgunj police. The three accused in the case are identified as Vikas Agarwal, Rajendra Patel, and Mahendra Patel. Meanwhile, four mobile phones and Rs 12.05 lakh in cash were also recovered from the accused trio by the police.
The arrested trio is thought to be a part of an organized betting gang, according to Gummi Chakravarthy, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Task Force, Hyderabad South Zone. He went on to say that the remaining seven gang members are running away.
According to the police, the main suspect, Vikas Agarwal, was having financial difficulties and planned to make a lot of money by betting on cricket matches online. “He interacted with Rajendra Patel and Mahendra Patel, who were both members of the gang.
They worked together to organize online cricket betting in order to make simple money to alleviate their financial woes and satisfy their extravagant desires. “Using web applications like Radhe Exchange Goshamahal, they started organizing online cricket betting,” Chakravarthy further stated.
During the third Twenty20 international match between India and New Zealand on February 1, they began accepting online bets via cell phones, however the racket was soon busted by the police.
