The income tax department is currently conducting searches at the properties of DMK MP and former Union minister S. Jagathrakshakan in Chennai. These searches are ongoing at his residence while he is present inside. This marks the second day of income tax searches at the DMK MP’s locations.
On Thursday, the Income Tax Department carried out searches at more than 40 locations associated with the former Union Minister. These searches also extended to two breweries situated in Devariyambakkam and Elayanarvelur areas in Kanchipuram, as well as the residence of the DMK MP’s cousin Kuppan in Wallajabad, Kanchipuram.
Additionally, searches were conducted at Balaji and Rela Hospitals in Chrompet, Chennai, both of which are owned by DMK MP S. Jagathrakshakan.
Jagathrakshakan currently serves as a member of the Lok Sabha, having been elected from the Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 parliamentary elections. He previously held the position of Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the UPA government under Dr. Manmohan Singh.
In response to these developments, TKS Elangovan, the Spokesperson of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accused the BJP of engaging in “vendetta politics.” He emphasized that the raids appeared politically motivated and criticized the BJP for not investigating individuals supporting their party.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore also criticized the BJP, describing the Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate as “frontal organizations” of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He asserted that these raids were part of political vendettas and alleged that the agencies target those opposed to the BJP while sparing those aligned with the party. Tagore predicted public rejection of such political tactics by Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah.
