IIT Bombay makes it to the top 150 universities in QS World rankings

The India Institute of Technology in Mumbai has accomplished a remarkable feat by entering the list of the world’s top 150 universities in the latest edition of Quacquareli Symonds (QS) World University rankings, as per the official statement released by IIT Bombay. Nunzio Quacquareli, the founder and the CEO of QS, congratulated the university for securing its highest-ever rank and mentioned that they evaluated 2,900 institutions for this year’s rankings with 45 universities making it onto the list.

The QS World University Rankings which is an annual publication, includes both global and subject-specific rankings. Before this, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore secured the 147th spot in 2016. IIT Bombay has improved significantly from its prior rating of 177th to the 149th spot in the most recent rankings. Since its participation, IIT Bombay has never made it within the top 150 of the QS rankings. Its substantial improvement was aided by the institution’s total score of 51.7 out of 100, which helped it move up 23 positions in 2023.

The QS World University Rankings also saw a significant improvement for Indian universities with 45 Indian colleges reaching the list for the first time this year. This is a sign that higher education in India is becoming more important and of greater quality. IIT Bombay and other Indian colleges’ inclusion in these rankings is a testament to their academic brilliance and competitiveness on a global scale.
