IMD issues orange alert in Eastern states for five days amid continuous heatwave

Due to the ongoing heatwave in the eastern part of the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the next five days, according to an official statement.

IMD scientist Naresh Kumar also provided information that temperatures in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana are expected to reach nearly 40-45 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days. He stated, “In the coming days, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana may experience temperatures near 40-45 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions persist in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. An orange alert has been issued for these regions for the next five days.”

Earlier on Monday, IMD scientists had predicted heatwave conditions for two days in Telangana and one day in Andhra Pradesh.

During a press conference, Sravani, a scientist at the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, informed reporters about thundershowers occurring throughout Telangana. She mentioned the presence of a trough in South Chhattisgarh and the prevailing southwesterly and northwesterly winds in the state over the past 24 hours. These wind patterns are expected to continue for the next 24 hours, particularly in the northern part of the state, while westerlies prevail in the southern part.

Sravani also highlighted that heatwave conditions are anticipated in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts of Telangana. She stated, “Continuous rise in temperatures will lead to heatwave conditions in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Medak, Adilabad, Nirmal, Hanumakonda, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam.”
