As India prepares to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on Thursday, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir is glowing with tricolour lights. The Chenab River bridge in Doda is also decked out in tricolour lighting for the national festival on August 15.
In anticipation of the celebrations, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organized a ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ walkathon in Srinagar on Wednesday, where participants proudly carried flags. Additionally, a Tiranga Rally featuring a 750-metre-long tricolour was held on the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Reasi district.
Reasi Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan explained, “We wanted to show our pride and respect for the nation. The tricolour, made by locals in just two days, was displayed on the world’s highest railway bridge to highlight our love for the country.”
In preparation for the Independence Day festivities, authorities have increased security measures, including vehicle checks along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway. Security personnel, including those from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), are conducting thorough inspections to ensure a safe celebration.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Udhampur Prahlad Kumar urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “We are checking various vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and advise everyone to inform the police if they notice anything unusual,” DSP Kumar said.
In Udhampur, the Head Post Office also participated in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign on Tuesday, with staff and customers joining in. Assistant Superintendent of Post Mahesh Singh Jasrotia encouraged residents to pick up a tricolour flag from their local post office to display at home, emphasizing, “We invite everyone to be a part of this campaign.”
