INDIA Bloc Writes To PM Modi: ‘Manipur Awaits Your Visit’—What Are Their 3 Key Demands?

The opposition INDIA bloc has sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to visit the conflict-ridden state of Manipur. The letter emphasizes that the people of Manipur are “eagerly waiting” for the Prime Minister to listen to their “voices of helplessness.”

The opposition bloc in the letter represented the people of Manipur, and this bloc expressed concern regarding the turmoil that has gripped the state for nearly two years since May 3, 2023. It has been emphasized that this situation has caused mass destruction; nearly one lakh people have been displaced, and hundreds have lost their lives. “Turmoil has devastated the entire state,” the letter reads, as it underlines the deepening trauma and fear gripping Manipur’s population due to “unprecedented violence.”

Three Key Demands For Peace

As part of their plea, the opposition presented three specific demands to restore peace and normalcy in the region:

• Visit by Prime Minister: The INDIA bloc urges PM Modi to visit Manipur at the earliest. The visit should be scheduled before the end of 2024. This is one of the most important steps in addressing the needs and concerns of the people directly affected by the crisis.
• If the PM is not able to personally visit Manipur, then he has been demanded by the opposition to call all the political parties to New Delhi and have a sit down on the issue.
• Direct Involvement in the Crisis: The letter emphasizes the necessity of the Prime Minister’s “direct involvement with the people of Manipur” in bringing about lasting peace and stability to the state. It believes that the Prime Minister’s personal involvement will pave a way towards recovery.

The letter concludes with a appeal saying, “The people of Manipur are longing to meet you on the soil of Manipur,” a reflection of the deep yearning for resolution to the long-standing crisis. The opposition bloc’s call for action makes it sound urgent and highlights the hope that a visit by the Prime Minister might be the turning point for the region.
