77th Independence Day: India fires 21-gun salute with indigenous 105mm field guns for the first time

During the 77th Independence Day celebrations, the Indigenous 105-mm Light Field Guns were employed for the first time in the ceremonial gun salute at the historic Red Fort in Delhi, India. This year, the guns were also utilized for a 21-gun salute during the Republic Day parade, marking their initial appearance. These Indian-made guns have taken the place of the British 25-pounder guns that were formerly in use.

It’s important to note that the 21-gun salute involves the use of specially designed cartridges or blank rounds, generating the sound of firing without the actual discharge of shells.

Ahead of the flag hoisting at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with a Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and Delhi Police. Following this, PM Modi delivered his 10th consecutive address to the nation. As the national flag was raised, petals were showered from two Advanced Light Helicopters Mark-III Dhruv of the Indian Air Force.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Nation First, Always First,” aligns with the overarching concept of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” during the 77th Independence Day festivities.
