India has registered 774 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry. The total count of coronavirus cases in the country since the outbreak in January 2020 now stands at 4,50,17,431, with an increase of 774 cases in the last day.
Two deaths have been reported in the country during the same period, with one each in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The death toll due to COVID-19 in India has reached 5,33,387, reflecting an increase of two deaths in the last 24 hours.
As per official statistics, a total of 34,660 tests were conducted on January 5, 2024, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. The total number of COVID-19 cases that have recovered in India is 4,44,79,804, indicating an increase of 919 recoveries since the previous day.
Since the outbreak of the virus, a total of 220,67,81,345 vaccinations have been administered in India. The vaccination drive continues to play a crucial role in the country’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
The official data from the Ministry of Health reveals that the maximum number of new cases have been reported from Southern India. Karnataka recorded 1169 cases, Kerala reported 1160, Tamil Nadu registered 188, and Maharashtra reported 931 cases.
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj addressed the rising trend, noting a pattern where an increase in COVID-19 cases in South India is followed by a surge in the northern regions. Minister Bhardwaj urged citizens not to panic but stressed the importance of taking precautions.
He mentioned, “All the positive cases coming in RTPCR test, we are sending those samples for genome sequencing. Currently, there is not a single positive case of the new variant in Delhi.” This statement provides insight into the rigorous testing and monitoring procedures in place to identify and track the emergence of new variants.
The government continues to emphasize the need for public vigilance and adherence to COVID-appropriate behavior to control the spread of the virus. With ongoing efforts in testing, vaccination, and genomic surveillance, India aims to manage the impact of COVID-19 and safeguard public health.”
