India-UAE ‘Desert Cyclone’ Joint Military Exercise Underway in Mahajan, Rajasthan

India-UAE joint military exercise, codenamed ‘Desert Cyclone,’ is currently underway in the arid terrains of Mahajan, Rajasthan. The two-week-long exercise, initiated on January 2, involves the active participation of 45 personnel from both Indian and UAE forces.

Representing the UAE Land Forces, troops from the Zayed First Brigade have joined hands with their counterparts from the Indian Army, primarily comprising a battalion from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment. The primary objective of ‘Desert Cyclone’ is to foster interoperability between the two nations, promoting the exchange of best practices in military operations.

With a focus on sub-conventional operations, including fighting in built-up areas (FIBUA) in desert or semi-desert terrain, the exercise aligns with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations. The drills planned for ‘Desert Cyclone’ encompass various tactical scenarios, such as the establishment of a Joint Surveillance Centre, Cordon and Search Operation, Domination of Built-Up Area, and Heliborne Operations.

Scheduled to conclude on January 15, the exercise not only aims to enhance cooperation between the Indian and UAE military but also emphasizes the importance of collaborative partnerships during peacekeeping operations. The joint effort signifies a milestone in the growing friendship and trust between the two nations, showcasing their commitment to shared security objectives.

In an official statement from the Ministry of Defence, the exercise is highlighted as a significant step towards further strengthening the bonds of friendship and trust between India and the UAE. ‘Desert Cyclone’ is anticipated to lay the groundwork for future joint military endeavors, fostering a robust partnership in defense and security matters between the two friendly nations.
