In a significant affirmation of the Indian Navy’s pivotal role in bolstering maritime security and the country’s sovereignty, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh acclaimed the Navy for its credibility and the enhancement of India’s stature within the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at the inaugural Naval Commanders’ Conference of 2024 aboard the INS Vikramaditya, Singh underscored the Navy’s instrumental role in projecting India as a credible maritime power.
The first day of the conference, which spans over three days, was marked by Singh’s embarkation at sea, demonstrating the Navy’s proficiency in conducting ‘twin-carrier operations’. This event not only showcased the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities but also highlighted its strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific waters.
Praising the Navy for its expanding multi-dimensional capabilities, Singh highlighted its leadership role in the Indian Ocean region. He acknowledged the Navy’s contributions towards ensuring peace and prosperity in alignment with the Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) initiative, put forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Defence Minister specifically commended the Indian Navy’s anti-piracy operations, which have garnered international appreciation.
In the face of evolving geopolitical landscapes, Singh stressed the necessity for jointness and synergy amongst the Indian armed forces. He pointed out the increasing relevance of drones in contemporary warfare and maritime operations, urging naval commanders to remain vigilant and prepared for various challenges. He reassured the commanders of the government’s unwavering support in their endeavors.
The conference is being conducted in a hybrid format, offering a crucial platform for naval commanders to discuss a wide range of strategic, operational, and administrative issues. This gathering is particularly significant given the shifting geopolitical dynamics, regional challenges, and the complex maritime security scenario currently prevailing in the region.
The event also facilitates discussions on enhancing tri-service synergy and readiness, with the participation of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chiefs of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. Together, they aim to explore ways to bolster the convergence of the three services in safeguarding national security.
The Naval Commanders’ Conference of 2024 sets the stage for defining the future trajectory of the Indian Navy, reinforcing its central role in maintaining maritime peace and security in one of the world’s most vital geopolitical theaters.
