Indian Railways Marks Historic Moment with Inauguration of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trainset Carbody Structure

In a significant milestone for Indian Railways, the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, unveiled the carbody structure of India’s groundbreaking Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset.

Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) at its rail unit in Bangalore, the inauguration event witnessed the presence of officials from the Ministry of Railways, ICF, and BEML Limited, including Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy.

Speaking to ANI during the inspection, Vaishnaw hailed the occasion as historic, emphasizing the significance of the Vande Bharat Sleeper version in enhancing commuter mobility and comfort to global standards.

Highlighting the advanced engineering, Vaishnaw detailed the use of high-grade Austenitic stainless steel and crashworthy elements integrated into the structure. Additionally, the trainset complies with stringent safety standards, ensuring fire safety requirements as per EN 45545 HL3 grade.

Vaishnaw lauded BEML’s meticulous design approach, which prioritizes both aesthetics and functionality across interiors, sleeper berths, and exteriors. Notably, BEML spearheaded the development of critical systems, guaranteeing seamless integration and optimal performance throughout the trainset.

Expressing excitement, Vaishnaw reiterated the transformative potential of the Vande Bharat Sleeper version for Indian Railways. Shantanu Roy, CMD of BEML Ltd, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the commitment to quality and precision in the manufacturing process.

The introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains sets a new standard in passenger comfort and convenience, signaling India’s progress in expanding the acclaimed Vande Bharat platform. Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, placed an order with BEML Limited for 10 Rakes of 16 cars Vande Bharat Sleeper version trainsets, further enhancing India’s railway infrastructure.

These trains will undergo necessary modifications to ensure compliance with crashworthiness and fire safety requirements, showcasing BEML’s dedication to excellence and innovation in rail transportation.

Technical specifications reveal that each trainset comprises 16 cars, with a maximum operational speed of 160 kmph. With a broad gauge of 1676 mm, the trainsets accommodate 823 berths in various classes, catering to diverse passenger needs.
