Internet suspension in Nuh, Haryana to extend until August 13th

The Haryana authorities have prolonged the halt on mobile internet and SMS services in the Nuh district until August 13th, as announced on Friday.

The order passed by the Haryana home secretary stated that the conditions in the Nuh district are still ‘critical and tense’.

“Whereas it has been brought to my notice by deputy commissioner nuh that the law and order situation has been reviewed and the conditions are still critical and tense in the district,” And whereas, after assessment of the current prevailing law and order situation as well as recommendations of the deputy commissioner, Nuh, I am of the considered view that there is a clear potential for disruption of public utilities, damage to public assets and amenities, and disturbance of public law and order in district Nuh on account of misuse of the internet services by the way of the spread of inflammatory material and false rumors, which are being or could be transmitted and circulated to the public through social media/messaging services on mobile internet service, SMS services, and other dongle services.”

Initially, the suspension of mobile internet was in place until August 8, but it was subsequently prolonged until August 11.

Violence erupted in Nuh district due to confrontations between two groups that ensued when a religious procession was attacked while passing through the area. This resulted in the unfortunate deaths of two home guards and numerous injuries, including those of around 20 police officers, as a result of the ensuing violent turmoil.

On a separate note, schools and educational establishments in Nuh resumed their activities on Friday, following a period of closure stemming from the violence. The district administration made a decision to ease the curfew from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

According to Ravinder Jain, principal of Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, some students from the primary section have returned to school, but higher-grade students are still not attending.
“Some students of the primary section have come; however, the higher grade students are not coming. Students who are participating in the August 15 program have also come. This is a good move by the administration.”

The District Magistrate of Nuh, Dhirendra Khadgata, has issued a directive to lift the curfew for public movement from 07:00 am to 03:00 pm, limited to an 8-hour period, on August 11. An additional directive has been issued specifically for banks.

The order from the district magistrate specifies that individuals who breach the curfew will face penalties under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other applicable regulations. The Superintendent of Public Nuh is responsible for ensuring the effective enforcement of these directives.
