Jairam Ramesh Accuses the Centre in a “Politics of Revenge”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the Modi government of vindictive politics, stating that freezing Congress and Youth Congress bank accounts was an act of revenge. He cited the Supreme Court’s criticism of the government’s actions, referring to it as “electoral bond loot.”

“The Supreme Court has said in clear language, Modi government suits, loots and lies. This is electoral bond loot and because of that they also closed our account and then the Prime Minister said that the Congress is insulting me,” the Congress leader said while speaking to ANI in Varanasi.

“This is a thing of wonder because if there is one person in our country who is engaged in insulting his opponents every day, it is him. The Prime Minister does not know anything except the politics of vengeance, the politics of harassment, the politics of threats. They are like your accounts have been seized, how will you proceed now,” Jairam Ramesh said.

He additionally criticized the BJP for what he perceived as ‘double standards,’ particularly regarding the recent acceptance of leaders who defected from the Congress.

“See, the Prime Minister had given a slogan to the country, Congress-free India, and now what is the reality? To whom are the Congress-linked BJP giving tickets? Who are they including in their party? now, it’s ‘Congress Yukt BJP’,” Jairam Ramesh said.

“Those who remain in Congress are accused of family feud and when they join BJP, they become very noble people. This is a double apology, isn’t it, this is a double standard, the Prime Minister’s trademark is to insult and defame,” he said.

Additionally, commenting on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s progress into Uttar Pradesh, the Congress leader informed, “Today marks the 35th day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Rahul Gandhi will pay a visit to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, followed by a roadshow and a public rally.” He continued, “He will also engage with weavers and Gandhian institutions, which, according to him, are facing challenges under the Modi government. Moreover, he plans to meet with students from Banaras Hindu University. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is scheduled to continue in Uttar Pradesh for eight days.”

Regarding the reports about Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi potentially contesting from Rae Bareli, Jairam Ramesh mentioned that the decision would be made by the Central Election Committee. He stated, “The CEC will make the decision. Sonia ji has penned a letter to the citizens and voters of Rae Bareli, expressing hope that a prominent candidate will step forward for Rae Bareli. This decision rests with the CEC, and they will decide at the appropriate time. Currently, I cannot provide any further information. Sonia ji’s induction into the Rajya Sabha brings us great joy as members of the Rajya Sabha.”
