PM Modi holds talks with Japanese PM Kishida in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida hold delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Monday.

On Monday, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in India for a two-day visit. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar met and greeted Kishida at the Delhi airport.

PM Kishida then visited Raj Ghat in Delhi and after paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, signed the visitor’s book.

Kishida will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and give a speech about Japan’s Indo-Pacific policy and new defence posture. On his visit to Delhi fifteen years ago, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe first mentioned Indo-Pacific cooperation.

The prime ministers will also stroll together through Delhi’s Buddha Jayanti park to see the Bal Bodhi tree, a revered tree with deep roots dating back to Gautam Buddha’s period.

Ties between India and Japan were elevated to ‘Global Partnership’ in 2000, ‘Strategic and Global Partnership’ in 2006, and ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ in 2014.
