Jodhpur: Vice President Dhankhar Highlights Agricultural Transformation at CAZRI Dialogue

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar engaged with farmers and scientists at the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, which falls under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Friday.

Central Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar participated in the event virtually. Additionally, the Vice President’s wife, Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, Central Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Agriculture State Minister Kailash Choudhary, and Member of Parliament Rajendra Gehlot were present.

During this occasion, Vice President Dhankhar emphasized that progress in the country is not possible without changes in the agriculture sector. He underscored that agriculture forms the backbone of the agrarian economy, and bringing about a change in farming practices is essential. Prime Minister Modi is at the forefront of this transformation. Dhankhar stated that agricultural production is currently the largest business and urged the youth to engage in agriculture, as it is the domain of farmers. He pointed out that several highly educated young people are involved in the trade of agricultural products produced by hardworking farmers. Encouraging farmers to add value to their products would bring about significant changes. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to use technology and modern methods in farming, which can lead to revolutionary transformations.

Dhankhar mentioned the importance of the economic corridor between India, the Middle East, and Europe, which is being resurrected after thousands of years. He called for farmers to embrace change, adopt technology, and add value to their products. He highlighted that the world witnessed India’s transformation in various sectors during the G20 Summit, which showcased the country’s advancements and the decision to create an economic corridor, especially significant for farming families.

Dhankhar assured unwavering support for the farmers and emphasized that their contribution to the nation’s development would be substantial by 2047.

Central Agriculture Minister Tomar expressed the importance of the agriculture sector for India. He asserted that farming is not just an occupation but a way of life and a means of livelihood. He stressed that several sectors can generate income, but agriculture is unique because without it, food and essential supplies will not be available, making farmers the food providers. Tomar applauded Prime Minister Modi’s efforts over the past nine years to improve farmers’ incomes and the agriculture sector. He cited initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which have been instrumental in enhancing the lives of farmers. He urged farmers to adopt organic and natural farming, emphasizing its growing importance. Tomar also encouraged the use of technology in farming practices and the implementation of the Soil Health Card. He highlighted the growing cultivation of millets in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh and stressed the need to boost millet production, which has worldwide demand.

Central Minister of Jal Shakti Shekhawat and Agriculture State Minister Choudhary also addressed the gathering.

Dr. O.P. Yadav, the Director of CAZRI, provided insights into the institute’s activities and achievements during the event. Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director of the Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) in Jodhpur, and several farmers, scientists, and officials from the region were also present.
