Joint Forces Launch Major Operation In South Kashmir’s Kishtwar Range To Combat Terrorist Infiltration

In response to credible intelligence reports indicating terrorist infiltration, the Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Police have launched a significant operation in the Kapran Garol area of South Kashmir’s Kishtwar range. Officials confirmed on Saturday that the operation, which commenced during the nights of August 9 and 10, is targeting terrorists believed to be involved in recent violent incidents in the Doda region.

According to a statement from the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Defense in Srinagar, human and electronic intelligence confirmed on August 5, 2024, that terrorists responsible for the atrocities in the Doda region on July 24 had crossed into the Kapran Garol area in South Kashmir. “Rashtriya Rifles and J&K Police have ever since relentlessly tracked these terrorists and precise operations were launched on the night of 09 & 10 Aug 2024 in the area East of Kapran, in the mountains, where these terrorists were reportedly holed up,” the statement said.

The operation intensified on August 10, when, at approximately 1400 hours, security forces detected suspicious movement in the area. When challenged, the suspected terrorists responded with indiscriminate, desperate, and reckless firing, resulting in injuries to two Army personnel and two civilians who were in the vicinity. The PRO (defense) added that the terror antecedents of the injured civilians are currently being investigated.

The area where the operation is taking place is particularly challenging, located at an altitude of over 10,000 feet, with dense undergrowth, large boulders, Nallahs, and re-entrants that complicate the security forces’ efforts. Despite these obstacles, the forces are proceeding cautiously and are actively hunting down the terrorists. “Operations will progress through the night,” the PRO (defense) added, indicating the ongoing nature of the mission.
