Just 15 Minutes Of Rain Puts Delhi Under Chaos, 2 Killed

Delhi Education Minister Atishi has announced that all schools in the city, including both government and private institutions, will be closed today due to heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that clouds had gathered over Delhi from all directions, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

The heavy rain on Wednesday evening brought relief from the humid weather but caused significant traffic congestion across Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR). Waterlogging was reported in multiple areas, leading airlines to issue advisories about potential flight diversions and urging passengers to leave early and check their flight status.

IMD states that Salwan Station Mayur Vihar in East Delhi observed 147.5 mm rainfall from 8:30 AM July 31 to 7:15 AM today whereas station NCMRWF, Noida Sector 62 in Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP observed 147.5 mm rainfall.

Areas Effected

Long lines of vehicles were seen on major roads such as the Delhi-Noida Expressway and Mathura Road, as well as key locations like ITO, AIIMS, Pragati Maidan, Kashmere Gate, and Sarai Kale Khan, leaving many people stranded for hours.

2 More Deaths

In a tragic incident, two people, a woman and her child died after slipping into a waterlogged drain. This is the 5th death in the National Capital in a row due to waterlogging.
