Kejriwal alerts opposition in AAP rally, suggests other states can face centre’s ordinance move

Arvind Kejriwal, convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Chief Minister, asserted on Sunday that the federal government’s Ordinance, which was introduced in Delhi, will be introduced in other states as well.

“We have come to know that this is Modi ji’s first attack. Through the ordinance, today dictatorship is being implemented in Delhi. Tomorrow this will be brought everywhere, Punjab, MP, Rajasthan…” Kejriwal remarked during the AAP massive demonstration against the Centre’s Ordinance at Ramlila Maidan.

He also stated that his party’s anti-corruption campaign was successful and that the campaign to safeguard the Constitution will be successful as well.

“12 years ago, we had gathered in the same Ramlila Maidan today to fight against corruption, I bow down to this platform, it is a holy platform. Today, from this platform, we have gathered to remove an arrogant dictator from the country. As the movement against corruption was successful, similarly this movement to save the Constitution will be successful,” Kejriwal said.

The Chief Minister of Delhi expressed gratitude to Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi for ‘fighting the battle of Delhiites’ at the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court gave a decision in favor of the people of Delhi. I thank Abhishek Manu Singhvi from this platform for fighting the battle of Delhiites. Within a week of the Supreme Court order, the Prime Minister overturned it. For the first time in 75 years, such a Prime Minister has come,” Kejriwal further said.

‘Modi ji’ changed SC decision with Ordinance, Dictatorship not Democracy in Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal

Furthermore, he said, “Today democracy is ending in the country, this is called dictatorship. The Supreme Court said in its decision that India is a democracy, the people choose a government, and the government has the right to work. But Modi ji says he does not accept the order of the Supreme Court and he has changed that decision through an ordinance. Modi ji’s ordinance says that now there will be no democracy in Delhi, dictatorship will continue, Prime Minister says that he will run the government through LG.”

CM Kejriwal claimed that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politicians continued to abuse him every day, but he has been busy with his duties and will continue to reject the legislation.

“While implementing the constitution on January 26, 1950, Baba Saheb had said that the public would be supreme, but Modi ji has blown away the constitution. BJP leaders abuse me every day but it doesn’t matter to me, I am busy with my work. But Modi ji has slapped the people of Delhi with the ordinance. I will keep rejecting this ordinance,” Kejriwal said.

On Sunday, the AAP held an enormous rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground opposing the Centre’s Ordinance on authority over administrative services in the national capital. The crowd was addressed by Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, his Punjab equivalent Bhagwant Mann, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai, and party MP Sanjay Singh.

Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal speaks at AAP rally

Notably, well-known lawyer and former Union Minister Kapil Sibal spoke at the gathering regarding the ordinance’s legal and constitutional issues. Sibal was invited to the protest by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In preparation for the event, Delhi Police has raised security around Ramlila Maidan.

Kejriwal launched a statewide tour on May 23 to rally opposition parties against the Ordinance. On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that the Centre’s ordinance might be rejected in Rajya Sabha if non-BJP parties banded together. He stated that this would send a clear message that the Modi administration would not be returning to power in 2024.

On May 19, the Union government issued an order notifying regulations for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) concerning “transfer posting, vigilance, and other incidental matters.”

The ordinance amends the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, and thereby avoids the Supreme Court’s decision in the Centre versus Delhi case.

CM Kejriwal has also met several opposition chief ministers and leaders in his attempt to unite the opposition parties for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
