In the midst of a dispute over the Centre’s ordinance on administrative service control in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met his Telangana counterpart K Chandrashekhar Rao in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party sought the support of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi against the Centre’s ordinance, which the party claims circumvented the Supreme Court order. Kejriwal was joined by his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann and AAP legislators Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha.
On May 23, the Delhi Chief Minister embarked on a nationwide tour to rally opposition parties against the ordinance, where he met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party Supremo Sharad Pawar, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav.
He also stated that he would be unable to attend the NITI Aayog meeting in the national capital on Saturday. This comes after the Union government issued an ordinance on May 19 to notify rules for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi concerning ‘transfer posting, vigilance, and other incidental matters’.
The ordinance amends the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, and thus avoids the Supreme Court’s decision in the Centre vs Delhi case.
