Kerala CM’s Relief Fund Receives Surge Of Donations Amid Wayanad Landslide Crisis

In the aftermath of the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s appeal for contributions to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) has garnered significant support.

Through campaign drives, donations are pouring in from different quarters to aid the affected areas.
In Thiruvananthapuram, under the leadership of MLA VK Prashanth, a campaign titled “Vattiyoorkavu Stands with Wayanad” was launched on Thursday to support the disaster-stricken region.

The event took place at the residence of TKA Nair, the Former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. This initiative encourages individuals to contribute Rs. 100 to the CMDRF to assist the affected areas of Wayanad.

TKA Nair highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “It’s a great humanitarian initiative in the context of the irreplaceable loss in Wayanad District.

Most regrettably, Wayanad has been going through such natural hazards repeatedly. We have to remember that Wayanad is an ecologically fragile area.

Every development and intervention must consider that fragility. The latest havoc is a sad reminder that we often neglect ecological and environmental considerations.

It’s not the time to delve into environmental problems but to support the Chief Minister’s efforts to provide immediate relief and rescue. I congratulate MLA VK Prashanth and his colleagues.”

Addressing the opposition to the CMDRF campaign, he remarked, “Such a campaign against the CMDRF is deplorable. This is not the time to find fault but to act and lessen the people’s misery.

We have enough time later to examine how to avoid such recurrences in the future.”
On the controversy between the state and the centre over advance warnings, he said, “Certainly, this is not the time for the Kerala government or the Government of India to blame each other.

Now is the time to provide immediate relief to the people. Until the dead bodies are buried, is this the time to say we sent this letter?”

The campaign focuses on mobilizing contributions from residents and businesses. Organizers hope to gather a significant amount through these efforts.

Despite the negative propaganda against the relief fund, this initiative aims to reinforce the public’s trust and ensure the fund’s effectiveness.
