Kerala train fire incident: Police nab suspect from Maharashtra

On Wednesday, a joint team of Central Intelligence and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Maharashtra apprehended the fugitive accused in the Kerala train fire incident in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri area. “A team of Kerala police has also reached Ratnagiri and the accused will be handed over to them soon,” said an official of the Maharashtra ATS.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) inspected the railway coaches of the Alappuzha-Kannur executive train that was stopped at Kannur Railway station earlier on Tuesday. According to authorities, an unidentified perpetrator spilled an inflammable liquid into the compartment of a moving train and set it ablaze on Sunday night, killing three people and injuring several more.

The suspect poured petrol on a passenger and set fire to the Alappuzha-Kannur Main Executive Express train at Elathur in Kozhikode district. The suspect had been sketched out by Kerala Police. The drawing was created in Kozhikode’s Elathoor police station with the assistance of Razak, a key witness in the case.
Three people were sent to a neighboring private hospital, while five were taken to Kozhikode Medical College. At least three of those hurt are female.

One of the injured reported that an unidentified assailant sprayed a flammable material, possibly fuel or kerosene, and set fire to the train. According to officials, the man allegedly set fire to a passenger on board the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train at Elathur in Kozhikode district on Sunday night after an argument.
