Amid the ongoing controversy of Kolkata’s rape and murder of a 31 year old woman trainee doctor on Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital were the Kolkata police have detained the suspect accused Sanjay Roy in the case.
Amid this, NewsX exclusively speaks with the Malti Roy – mother of suspected accused Sanjay Roy in the rape and murder case of the 31 year old trainee doctor on Kolkata.
NewsX correspondent Rainik Dutta questioned Sanjay Roy’s mother about what he did to survive.
She replied, “Sanjay worked in the police department, but I don’t know which department.”
Regarding the allegations against Sanjay, what is your take?
I don’t know how to respond; I don’t know anything about it… I don’t think Sanjay could have done this… he was a very good person. It’s shocking to hear this at his age… I’m very surprised.
Was Sanjay married?
Yes, he was. We only found out about the cancer when his wife came. Sanjay gave a lot of blood and spent a lot of money on treatment, but couldn’t save her. It’s been about a year since she passed away.
How many times did he marry?
We only saw one wife, the one who had cancer.
What was Sanjay’s career and education like?
“It was very good, but despite his good education and career, this incident happened. It’s very upsetting.”
Do you think there is any conspiracy behind this, or someone trying to frame Sanjay?
“You should investigate that. I can’t say anything. We were at home, maybe someone with a grudge against him did this. I don’t know about his friends or anyone else who might have been involved.”
“It’s been a long time since we spoke with Sanjay…Earlier, his niece and others used to visit, but now they don’t… once the work was done, that was it. There was a big ceremony at our house, and he didn’t even know about it. His in-laws managed everything somehow. I don’t believe Sanjay could do something like this. He had such a good position in his job… would someone like him do this? He would protect his job; no one would do something to jeopardize their own career.”
Thousands of doctors and post-graduate students across the country went on strike to protest the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor, whose body was discovered last week at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, causing widespread outrage.
The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of Delhi’s AIIMS presented six demands: transferring the case to the CBI for investigation, taking stringent action against those responsible, providing adequate compensation to the victim’s family, dismissing the hospital principal and security head, securing a written commitment from the Central Government to enforce the Central Protection Act for doctors, and naming a building or library at the institute in her honor.
