Arrested for rape and murder of 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sanjoy Roy unlike what is believed, was not employed by the hospital. He used to just hang around the campus’s building.
Who Was Sanjoy Roy Exactly?
But the question is, who was Sanjoy Roy? Well, the accused was a civic volunteer, who was with Kolkata police. These civic volunteers are usually contractual staff, who help police in carrying out several kinds of works. Including traffic management and disaster response.

For their services, they earned approximately ₹12,000 per month. but, these volunteers lack access to the benefits afforded to regular police officers.
Meanwhile as per the reports, he joined disaster management wing of Kolkata Police in 2019. Later, he was later transferred to the police welfare cell and subsequently, he was assigned to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he had access to all departments.
Further, he was also involved in the scam, where he earned from relatives of patients for admission. In addition, he also used to take money for arrangement of a bed at nearby nursing homes, in case the patients don’t secure a bed at govt-run hospital.
Acting As A Police
Even though, he wasn’t a cop, Roy acted like one, as he used to wear a t-shirt with KP (Kolkata Police) written on it. Not just that, his bike also had a tag of KP.
He used to act like that so much, he even introduced himself as official of Kolkata police. As per some civic officials, people even believed, that he was a cop.
Arrested For Rape & Murder Of A Doctor
Meanwhile, following arrest of the heinous murder & rape of 31 year old doctor of RG Kar College & Hospital, the local reports revealed, that Roy instantly confessed to the crime and he confessed, when police began its questioning.
According to reports, the accused displayed no remorse and casually said these line ‘Hang me if you want.’
Currently, the accused has been placed in police custody until August 23.
