Kupwara Encounter: Soldier Killed, Army Major Among 4 Injured in Counter-attack with Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

An encounter that broke out between the army and the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region on Saturday claimed the lives of soldier as well as a terrorist. The Army officials stated that the exchange of fire had taken place on a forward post in Kamkari, Machhal Sector, Kupwara, near the Line of Control (LoC). According to defense officials, five army personnel were injured, including a major-ranking officer, while one terrorist was killed in the attack. It was later revealed that one soldier had succumbed to his injuries soon after.

This was a Border Action Team (BAT) action, according to the officials. A BAT team struck a nearby Indian army bunker early in the morning. A few of the five injured people have been transported to a hospital for additional care. Terrorists and Pakistan Army special forces troops typically make up the BAT.
During the heavy gunfight that lasted for hours, two intruders were able to return to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), according to the sources.
