Ladakh IMD Director Calls ‘Steep Rise’ In Temperature A Matter Of Concern At The Region, Here’s Why

Ladakh IMD director Sonam Lotus has recently made a massive revelation on Wednesday. According to the IMD director, a steep rise in temperature in a hilly region is a ‘matter of concern.’

Furthermore, he also noted that even though high temperatures in July-August are normal in Ladakh, a steep temperature rise is a grave concern, as glaciers serve as a key water source. Their swift melting caused by extreme temperatures presents a major risk to the area’s water supply.

Talking to ANI, He said  ‘Steep rise in temperature, that too in Ladakh, is indeed a matter of concern. Glaciers are our natural resources and are very valuable. We get water from that glacier, so if the temperatures rise like this – when Ladakh’s 30 degrees is like 40 degrees in the plains – the intense heat will melt the ice bodies faster.’

Later, the IMD director also issued alerts about possible flash floods in the next few days saying that due to presence of heat, it now rains and rainfall are becoming active now, as since yesterday, the region is becoming cloudy. As a result, there is light monsoon in some spots. But fortunately, there is no loss of life.

Issuing advisory he said ‘We would like to tell the tourists that it is going to rain in the next week. It can take the form of a flash flood in a few areas. So, people will have to be alert these few days. Take this as an advisory. There is no need to panic.’
