On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the transformative impact of the Lakhpati Didi Yojana on women across India. He emphasized the pivotal role of women engaged in Self Help Groups (SHGs) in driving the progress of a developed India.
In a social media post on X, PM Modi underscored the significance of the Lakhpati Didi Yojana as a catalyst for women’s empowerment nationwide. He also shared a video featuring a beneficiary of the program.

Nikita Maarikam, from Chitaloor in Chhattisgarh, exemplifies the success of the initiative. Through her SHG, she has become an entrepreneur, managing multiple businesses including providing nutritious mid-day meals to schools in her area.
Implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, the Lakhpati Didi Yojana aims to foster economic empowerment and financial self-reliance among women in rural regions. A Lakhpati Didi is defined as a SHG member whose household earns an annual income of over Rs. 1,00,000, sustained over at least four agricultural seasons or business cycles, with an average monthly income exceeding Rs. 10,000, ensuring its long-term viability.
