Uttarakhand: Landslide blocks the Rishikesh-Badrinath route

As a result of a significant mountainside collapse in the Totaghati area of the Tehri Garhwal district, traffic has been suspended on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway-58, according to officials.
The massive landslide that hit the Totaghati area and caused traffic on the Badrinath Highway to be suspended was described by Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit.
The landslide’s great scale, he said, would likely require some time to clean the road, which was in the process of being cleared.
The Pindar River in the Tharali area of the Chamoli district experienced a significant rise in water level yesterday as a result of the state’s heavy rains.
“There was heavy rain in the area late at night yesterday, after which the water level of the Pranmati River started flowing above the danger mark. Due to this the Pindar river also came in spate,” Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said.
The DM further explained that the surge in river water levels had resulted in a stressful situation that had damaged several nearby residences and agricultural areas.
In the Dehradun neighborhood of Kaluwala, Friday’s heavy downpours disturbed daily life. The precipitation seeped inside the homes and flooded the streets, according to SDRF.
The state’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, did an aerial reconnaissance of the state’s flood-affected areas on Monday. In Rishikesh, he also looked at the Ganga River’s growing water level.
In Uttarakhand, this monsoon’s heavy rains have caused landslides and flash floods in several locations.
