Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Saturday that the Central government is set to introduce three new laws, marking a significant overhaul in the country’s criminal justice system. Shah participated in the Police Commemoration Day, where he paid tribute to the brave police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty at the National Police Memorial in the national capital.
In his address, Amit Shah underscored the pivotal role of the police in upholding both border and internal security, acknowledging the tremendous challenges faced by law enforcement officials. He lauded the selfless dedication of the police force, stating, “In any nation, border security or internal security is not possible without an alert police force. I have observed that police duty is the toughest among all the people serving the country. In any weather or festival, a policeman is always on duty to maintain law and order. Whether it is terrorism, crime, or managing large crowds, the police have consistently safeguarded the lives of the common people. The police of our nation has always proved itself on every front.”
Furthermore, the Union Home Minister shed light on the impending legislative changes, highlighting the government’s commitment to infuse the essence of Indianness into the new laws while ensuring the protection of every citizen’s rights in line with the principles of the Constitution. Shah emphasized, “The Government of India is bringing three new laws under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi which will change our criminal justice system. All three were built during the British period. Now, not only will Indianness be reflected in these laws, but the rights of every citizen will also be protected in the spirit of our Constitution.”
Elaborating on the country’s future trajectory, Shah shared the Prime Minister’s vision for the upcoming years, emphasizing the collective determination of 130 crore people to propel the nation to a prominent global position. He also acknowledged the substantial contributions of police personnel, citing a notable 65% reduction in terrorism, militancy, and Naxal attacks over the past year.
“Whether it is an area of leftist extremism, be it the North East states, be it Jammu and Kashmir, our soldiers have succeeded in keeping the situation normal at these three places,” Shah affirmed. He further emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, highlighted by the implementation of stringent laws and the establishment of the Police Technology Mission aimed at bolstering the country’s anti-terrorism capabilities.
