Lok Sabha 2024: Delhi, Gurugram to vote on May 25, Noida on April 26

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that voting for the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi will take place on May 25 during the sixth phase of the elections. Alongside Delhi, Gurugram will also go to polls on the same day, while Noida’s voting is scheduled for the second phase on April 26.

Approximately 14.7 million eligible voters are expected to participate in Delhi’s election to elect their Members of Parliament (MPs).

Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and 8 out of 70 seats in the Delhi assembly, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holds 62 seats.

In the upcoming polls, AAP and Congress are part of the INDIA bloc alliance and will contest together. AAP will field candidates on four seats, while Congress will contest three seats. BJP has already announced its candidates for all seven seats, opting for new faces this time by replacing six of the seven sitting MPs.

AAP has named four candidates, three of whom are current legislators in Delhi. The Congress is expected to announce its candidates next week.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP received 56.6% of the votes in Delhi, while AAP got 18.11% and Congress 22.51%. BJP secured more than 50% of the vote share in each constituency, with the election being a triangular contest among BJP, Congress, and AAP in all seven seats.

The smallest constituency is New Delhi with 1.48 million electors, while the largest is West Delhi with 2.49 million electors.

As of February 1, 2024, Delhi has 14,742,145 electors, including 7,998,652 male and 6,742,330 female electors, according to data from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi.
