In a recent development concerning the Lok Sabha polls of 2024, the Election Commission has taken action against 106 government employees in Telangana’s Siddipet district for their alleged participation in a meeting organized by the BRS party, led by KCR, in violation of the model code of conduct.
According to official sources, a significant number of government employees were reported to have attended the meeting, which took place at a function hall on the night of April 7. The Election Commission’s decision came following a complaint filed by the BJP, prompting a flying squad of election officials to visit the venue.
Upon the arrival of the flying squad, many employees purportedly dispersed from the location. However, they were subsequently identified through scrutiny of CCTV footage. District Collector M Manu Choudary, acting as the district election officer, issued orders late on Monday night to suspend the 106 employees allegedly involved in the violation.
The incident underscores the Election Commission’s stringent enforcement of the model code of conduct during the electoral process, aiming to maintain fairness and integrity in the democratic exercise.
