Just hours after unveiling its initial list of 16 candidates from Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) released a second list on Sunday, featuring nine additional candidates.
Led by Mayawati, the BSP has nominated candidates such as Hembabu Dhangar from Hathras, Kamal Kant Upmanyu from Mathura, Pooja Amrohi from Agra, and Ram Niwas Sharma from Fatehpur Sikri.
Notably, the BSP is contesting the elections independently this time, unlike in 2019 when it formed an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). The first list included candidates like Mazid Ali from Saharanpur and Shreepal Singh from Kairana.
The BSP won four seats out of nine it contested in 2019. The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled to be conducted in seven phases starting from April 19, with Uttar Pradesh, which holds the highest number of parliamentary seats (80), participating in all seven phases. The voting dates are spread across April, May, and June, with counting slated for June 4th.
