Lok Sabha Polls : Rahul Gandhi Discloses Assets Valued At Over Rs 20 Crore

Congress leader and current Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi has disclosed assets valued at over Rs 20 crore in his nomination documents for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala. In an affidavit submitted to the returning officer on Wednesday, he revealed movable assets exceeding Rs 9 crore (Rs 9,24,59,264) and immovable assets surpassing Rs 11 crore (Rs 11,15,02,598), totaling assets worth over Rs 20 crore (Rs 20,39,61,862). Additionally, he declared ownership of two pieces of land jointly held with his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

As per the affidavit, his income sources include his salary as an MP, royalties, rental income, interest, bonds, dividends, capital gains from mutual funds, and other earnings. The total income for the fiscal year 2022-23 was reported as Rs 1,02,78,680.

Rahul Gandhi also disclosed his educational qualifications, stating that he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rollins College, Florida, in 1994, and an M.Phil in Development Studies from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, in 1995.

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi formally submitted his nomination papers for the Wayanad parliamentary seat following a roadshow in Kalpetta, Wayanad. Thousands of people, including leaders and supporters of the United Democratic Front (UDF), gathered in Kalpetta to greet him. Accompanied by his sister, Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul led a roadshow from Kalpetta to Civil Station.

Rahul Gandhi reiterated his commitment to addressing Wayanad’s issues on a national and global scale. Meanwhile, Annie Raj, the CPI national leader and Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate, also filed her nomination papers in the same constituency. The CPI, part of the ruling Left Democratic Front in Kerala, competes fiercely with the Congress, despite both being allies in the opposition INDIA bloc.

In a bid for dominance in the 2024 elections, the BJP has nominated Kerala State President K Surendran as a candidate under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Kerala, where the Congress maintains a strong presence, contributes 20 parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha. Voting across all 20 seats in Kerala is set for April 26, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
