The death toll in the Lucknow Building collapse incident has risen to a total of 8, while 28 people are reported to have been injured in the incident. A rescue operation is currently underway.
The death toll from the building collapse in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar area has risen to eight after rescuers recovered three more bodies from the rubble on Sunday. The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, has left the community in shock and mourning as rescue operations continue in an effort to ensure no one else is trapped beneath the debris.
District officials reported that the three-storey building, which housed several godowns and a motor workshop, suddenly crumbled, injuring 28 people. The collapse also crushed a truck that was parked nearby, further illustrating the extent of the devastation. The injured victims have been rushed to various hospitals across Lucknow, including Lok Bandhu Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Raj Kishore, Rudra Yadav, Jagrup Singh, Manjeet Singh Shahni, Dheeraj, Pankaj, Arun, and Rajesh Kumar, according to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). As of now, the search and rescue operation is ongoing, with emergency personnel combing through the remains of the building to ensure that no one is left trapped.
In response to the collapse, local police, district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and SDRF teams have been working tirelessly to manage the situation. Lucknow Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar expressed his commitment to the rescue efforts, saying, “An unfortunate incident occurred here in the evening on Saturday. On receiving information, local police, district administration, NDRF, and SDRF immediately began rescue operations. Injured persons were taken to the hospital and they are undergoing treatment. Some people lost their lives. This operation will continue till the last person is safely taken out.”
The commissioner’s statement reflects the ongoing dedication of the rescue teams, who have been on the scene since the collapse, braving hazardous conditions to save lives and recover those lost.
The tragic incident has prompted responses from prominent leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who extended his condolences to the families of the victims. “The loss of life due to the collapse of a building in Lucknow district is extremely sad and heart-breaking. My condolences are with the grieving families of the deceased. Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing and provide proper treatment to the injured. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured,” Adityanath expressed in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter).
Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh also reached out, having been briefed on the ongoing rescue operations by Lucknow’s District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar. “My deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their loved ones in this accident. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured,” Singh stated, echoing the sentiments of many who have been touched by this devastating event.
