Manipur: Security Forces Recover Large Arms Cache Amid Efforts to Strengthen Border and Valley Security

In a concerted effort to fortify security across the sensitive border areas and key regions in Manipur, security forces launched an intensive search operation resulting in the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition. The operations, targeting vulnerable districts in both hilly and valley areas, took place in Aigejang village and the Uyok Nalla region of Bishnupur District. Officials described the seizures as part of a broader mission to ensure security and stability across the region.

Significant Recovery of Arms and Ammunition

The security operations yielded a wide array of weapons and ammunition, further highlighting the gravity of the situation in Manipur. Among the recovered items were:

  • One SLR Rifle
  • One Sniper Rifle
  • Two Bolt Action Rifles
  • One 9mm Pistol with an Empty Magazine
  • Five HE No. 36 Hand Grenades
  • Eighteen Live Rounds of Ammunition
  • Three Wood-Piercing Tear Smoke Shells
  • Four Anti-Riot Rubber Bullets
  • Three Tear Smoke Shells
  • Five Tear Smoke Shell Soft Noses
  • Two Stun Grenades
  • Two Tear Smoke Grenades
  • One Wireless Transmitter (WT) Set
  • Three Bulletproof Jackets
  • Two Plastic Sacks for Storage

The discovery of this assortment of arms and security-grade equipment underscores ongoing threats in certain regions and the necessity of maintaining robust security protocols.

Enhanced Security Measures to Secure Highways

Alongside the search operations, security forces have also focused on ensuring the safe transport of essential goods across Manipur. This involves heightened monitoring along key highways, with a special emphasis on National Highways NH-37 and NH-2, both crucial supply routes for the region. Security teams escorted 143 vehicles along NH-37 and 14 vehicles along NH-2 to protect against any disruption or threats to these essential services.

To secure the convoy, officials implemented stringent security measures, including the deployment of armed escorts along stretches of the highways known to be particularly sensitive. These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to safeguarding the continuous movement of essential supplies.

Extensive Checkpoints and Law Enforcement Actions

In a bid to reinforce law and order, authorities established a total of 111 security checkpoints, also known as “Nakas,” spread across various districts in Manipur. These checkpoints have been strategically positioned to monitor and control movement, intercept illicit activities, and maintain security in potentially volatile areas.

During the operation, law enforcement detained five individuals suspected of involvement in illegal activities across several districts. These arrests, authorities believe, may be critical in preventing further disruptions and deterring criminal actions. The identities of the detainees have not been released, and investigations are ongoing to determine if there are any links to wider networks.

Commitment to Peace and Stability

The operations underscore the state’s dedication to enhancing public safety and curbing unlawful activities in regions that remain vulnerable to security threats. By maintaining rigorous security procedures and conducting thorough searches, authorities aim to preserve peace and stability in Manipur.

The consistent recovery of weapons highlights the persistence of underlying security issues in certain parts of the state, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance. Officials reiterate their commitment to upholding law and order, and the recent successful operations underscore the collective resolve of security forces in Manipur.
