Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remarked on Sunday that the ongoing violence in Manipur stems directly from a particular brand of “politics of division, hatred, and anger.” He expressed deep concern over the unsettling nature of the violence, emphasizing that the scars left by such incidents would require considerable time to heal.
“The enduring sadness and anger won’t dissipate quickly. The persistent turmoil in Manipur is deeply unsettling and demands an immediate cessation. The violence in Manipur is a clear consequence of a specific strain of divisive and hate-driven politics,” Rahul Gandhi articulated.
Offering insight from his visit to Manipur, Rahul Gandhi noted that he had never encountered a situation like the one he witnessed during his 19-year political career. He stated, “I personally witnessed the events and the hardships faced by the people of Manipur. Throughout my political journey spanning nearly two decades, I have never encountered a situation as what I observed in Manipur.”
Rahul Gandhi underscored the importance of maintaining unity within the region, likening the current state of affairs to a disheartening division. He said, “It’s as if an individual has been torn in two, and it’s akin to rending an entire state apart. The cycle of violence, sexual assault, and loss of life persists. Just yesterday, I spoke about two women I met in Manipur and the atrocities they endured. Consequently, it is imperative that the violence be halted without delay.”
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the Manipur situation, he added, “For me, it served as a lesson on the consequences of employing politics rooted in division, hatred, and anger within a state.”
While visiting Kerala during his two-day trip, Rahul Gandhi inaugurated the Community Disability Management Center (CDMC) at St Joseph High School Auditorium in Kodenchery. He highlighted that the center’s objective is to provide timely intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation for children, encompassing psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, physiotherapy, and speech education.
Rahul Gandhi also declared his intention to contribute ₹55 lakh from his MP fund toward the facility. “The center is designed to offer early intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation for children. It will encompass psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, physiotherapy, and speech education. I am delighted to allocate ₹55 lakh from the MP fund to support this initiative,” Rahul Gandhi affirmed.
