Manish Sisodia demands 927 cr from Nirmala Sitharaman to prepare for G20

For the purposes of preparing for the G20 events that would take place in the nation’s capital, the Delhi government requested funds from the central government. In regard to the issue, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia wrote a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Sisodia also holds the portfolio of the finance department. Sisodia stated that because Delhi does not receive any additional funds from the Centre, Rs 927 crore should be allocated separately to Delhi for G20 preparations.

The fact that India is hosting the G20 meeting this time is a source of great joy for India. We Delhiites are delighted that Delhi will host the majority of the G20’s most important activities. Sisodia wrote.

He went on to add that the Government of Delhi will fully cooperate with the Government of India to ensure the success of the G-20 meeting’s organization and it will be the effort of the entire Delhi government, under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, that there should be no shortage in hosting the international guests who came to our place during the G20 meeting.

He further emphasized that the government of Delhi will ensure that our guests at the G20 Summit return with unforgettable memories from Delhi as the capital of modern India. The Deputy Chief Minister also stated that the Delhi government’s various departments have created a framework for organizing a variety of activities and programs, including infrastructure development.

He stated that there are proposals in this for beautifying specific areas around the major G20 venues and organizing specific activities and programs at prominent Delhi locations on this occasion. Sisodia stated that the Delhi government requires Rs 927 crore for the special preparations for the G-20 and demanded additional funds.

Vinay Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, is also constantly evaluating these efforts. He added that all of these preparations for the G20 efforts and programs have also received approval from the Lieutenant Governor.

Sisodia in his letter wrote “You already know that the Indian government does not contribute any money to the Delhi government’s share of central taxes. The Indian government also does not provide the Delhi government with any additional funding. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi does not receive any of the funds that are allotted to the states’ municipal corporations in proportion to their populations. “It is evident that it will not be easy for the Delhi government to spend Rs 927 crores to prepare the G20 meeting with its usual limited resources in such a situation.”

Meanwhile, if you don’t already know on December 1, 2022, India took over the G20 Presidency from Indonesia. This year, India will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time. One of the world’s leading platforms for international economic cooperation is the G20 or Group of Twenty. After the Asian financial crisis in 1999, the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the G20 convened to discuss global economic and financial issues.

The European Union and 19 countries make up the G20, or Group of Twenty. Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America round out the 19 nations.

In addition, nine guest nations and invited international organizations are present at this year’s G20 summit which although are not a part of the G20 but are invited by India as its guest.
