Massive Drug Bust: Punjab Police Nab 6.65 kg Heroin, Two In Custody

Punjab police arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 6.65 kg of heroin, amounting to Rs 6 lakhs in drug money, near the Indo-Pak border in the Ferozepur district.

The DGP of Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, posted on X on Thursday that after working on technical inputs, the Counter Intelligence Amritsar (CIA) team of District Ferozepur conducted the operation near the border and made the seizure.

DGP Yadav further informed that the FIR against the drug dealers was registered on Wednesday and the police are investigating the case to establish the forward and backward linkage of trans-border narcotic smuggling networks. “Punjab police are committed to dismantling the drug network and making our state drug-free as per the directions of the Hon’ble CM Bhagwant Mann,” DGP Yadav posted on X.

On August 7, Punjab Police conducted a massive state-level cordon and search operation under the name of ‘Operation Eagle V’ to target drug hotspots across Punjab. Range ADGPs/IGPs/DIGs and CPs/SSPs personally supervised this operation in each police district.

Over 500 police teams with 4,000 police personnel were deployed. They inspected 512 identified drug hotspots in Punjab, apprehended 82 suspicious individuals, and registered 61 FIRs. 270 grams of heroin, Rs 15,210 in drug money, 1,868 intoxicant tablets, 74 kg of poppy husk, 2 kg of ganja, and a substantial quantity of lahan and licit liquor were also seized in the operation.

Last week, Punjab Police also seized over Rs 1.07 crore in drug money and apprehended two operatives of foreign-based top drug smugglers Gurjant Singh alias Bholu and Kinderbir Singh alias Sunny Dyal, said DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Those arrested have been identified as Dilbag Singh, a resident of village Lohka in Tarn Taran, and Kamaldeep Singh, a resident of Patti in Tarn Taran. Apart from seizing the drug money, police teams also recovered one money-counting machine and two mobile phones from their possession, besides impounding their Maruti Swift car.

DGP Yadav said that Counter Intelligence Amritsar received intel inputs that foreign-based drug smugglers Gurjant Bholu and Sunny Dyal are running an organized crime syndicate involved in drug trafficking and illegal weapons distribution across the state. They have tasked their operatives with collecting the drug money and sending it using the Hawala route.
