The proceedings of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House on Monday were deferred till further notice without a mayor being elected. The house was delayed for the third time in a row after a squabble developed over nominated members being permitted to vote in elections for mayor, deputy mayor, and chairpersons of several standing committees.
The house gathered twice before after the Aam Aadmi Party won the civic votes on December 4 last year, but due to disputes between members of the BJP and the AAP, it was unable to choose the mayor.
Earlier today, Presiding Officer Satya Sharma appeared at the Delhi Civic Centre and said that aldermen—nominated members—will be permitted to vote in the process of choosing the mayor. Members of the AAP objected, and the parliament was adjourned.
