Members of Sheikh Hasina’s entourage, who arrived in India with her on Monday, have begun departing for their next destinations. Along with the two sisters, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, a significant number of associates arrived in India on August 5.
Most members of the entourage have now started leaving India for their next destinations, sources told ANI. Sheikh Hasina and her sister, along with other associates, had to flee Bangladesh urgently to ensure their safety. All the team members came to India in a hurry, with many unable to bring clothing or other daily-use items. Indian protocol officials assigned to the entourage assisted them in purchasing clothes and other necessities.
The team members were reportedly in a state of shock due to the experiences and scenes witnessed in their home country in recent days. The number of associates from Bangladesh’s most prominent political family is in the double digits, and they arrived in India with Sheikh Hasina.
Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval maintained constant communication with the officials and met Hasina as soon as she landed in Delhi. The team received immediate assistance and was taken to safe houses in Delhi.
Bangladesh is currently facing a volatile political situation, with Sheikh Hasina tendering her resignation on August 5 amid mounting protests. The protests, initially led by students demanding an end to the quota system for government jobs, evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations.
Members of the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, are scheduled to take the oath tonight. Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman indicated that the oath-taking ceremony is expected to take place at 8:00 pm (local time) in the presence of approximately 400 dignitaries, according to The Daily Star.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman suggested that the interim government might consist of 15 members, though he did not provide names or details about the government’s possible tenure. He expressed hope that normalcy would return within three to four days, as the situation in Bangladesh is reportedly improving. He also stated that those involved in recent crimes would not be spared and that legal action would be taken against them.
