Ministers from countries across the globe have taken to Twitter to extend their condolences to the grieving in the train accident in Odisha’s Balasore on Saturday.

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry issued an official statement on Twitter, saying, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs expressed its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of the friendly Republic of India, for the victims of the train collision that occurred in eastern India, and resulted in dozens of victims and injuries.” 

The Ministry also expressed its solidarity with India during this difficult time, saying, “The Ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s solidarity with the friendly Republic of India, expressing condolences to the families of the victims, and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Leaders from around the world, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, expressed their condolences for the triple train crash.

“Terrible news from India,” Leyen said on Twitter. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the Odisha train accident and wish the injured a speedy recovery. In this time of grief, we are thinking of the people of India. @narendramodi, Europe mourns with you.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte said on Twitter, “Shocked by the news of the terrible train accident in Odisha, India and the high number of casualties.” My thoughts are with the families who have lost a loved one, as well as those who have been injured. I wish your country and the people of India great strength at this time, @narendramodi.”

The Turkish embassy issued a statement following the tragic accident, saying, “We have learned with deep sorrow that close to 300 people lost their lives and nearly 1000 people were injured last right as a result of a train crash in Odisha, India.”

“We express our condolences to the families of those who died in this tragic accident, as well as the people and government of India, and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” it added.

Sharing the above statement on Twitter, Firat Sunel, Turkey’s ambassador to India, also expressed condolences to those who lost family members in the accident and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the train accident in Balasore, Odisha, on Saturday. Macron stated France’s solidarity with India. “I express my heartfelt condolences to President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, and the people of India in the aftermath of the tragic train accident in Odisha.” France stands with you in solidarity. “My thoughts are with the victims’ families,” the French President said in a tweet.

Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed “sadness” over the deaths in the Odisha train accident and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences over the train accident to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, also expressed his condolences.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of hundreds of lives in an Indian train accident.” My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. “Prayers for the injured’s quick recovery,” he said in a tweet.
